Whizz Kids Report (2018 – 2019)
 
  • Pupil voice questionnaires – Reading Whiz Kids supported in the formulation of questions for the questionnaire and the gathering of questionnaires once complete. Whiz Kids were also personally asked for their reading preferences, and both their and the wider school’s opinions were taken into account when ordering new books for the library.
 
  • Meetings at lunch times – regularly met with reading leader to discuss roles, responsibilities and supporting reading around the school.
 
  • Supporting with the library – Whiz Kids are given the responsibility of overseeing the borrowing of books from pupils in their respective classes.
 
  • Supporting with Reading Breakfasts – different Whiz Kids are chosen to support by speaking to parents and guiding them around the school.
 
  • Trying out new books – pupils are given first opportunity to read new books that have arrived and provide feedback, usually at the next meeting.
 
  • World Book Week – Whiz Kids play an active role by suggesting ideas to be used across the week, read to classes in EYFS and KS1, as well as supporting the assembly at the end of the week.
 
  • Designing the library – pupils discussed their ideas for themes to be used for the library displays and how they could be designed.
 
 
  • School display – The Whiz Kids were allocated their own display board, detailing their reading interests and what they enjoyed about reading, alongside their picture. This helped to raise the profile of both the Whiz Kids and reading across the school.
