Headteacher's blog - week ending 28/06/2019
28 Jun 2019
Dear parent/carer,
It has been a brilliant and sunny week at Downsell.
We celebrate careers week all week. The children were visited by the police, a scientist and the local Member of Parliament. The Year 2, 4, 5 and 6 children also went on a trip to Kidzania where they had a realistic insight into the adult world by taking part in a choice of 'jobs'.
Some of our Year 6 children took part in a Bikeability course where they gained their level 1 and 2 certificates. They now have the skills to ride on the road which is very important seeing as they will soon be going to Year 7.
On Wednesday, a group of Years 3 and 4 pupils went to perform at the Waltham Forest's summer music festival. They were amazing the composer said our pupils had so much enthusiam. Well done!
This week, we also hosted an Able Writers day with the Poet Josh Seigal for selected Year 1 and 2 children.
Our Year 3 pupils went to The British Museum to learn all about the ancient ritual of mummification. It was a brilliant trip which linked nicely to their creative curriculum work.
We rounded off this week with a non-uniform day where children were able to dress as what they would like to be when they grow up. Lots of the children dressed as teachers, doctors and sports people. It was fantastic to see our children thinking about their futures in a very positive way.
I hope you all have a very good weekend and I look forward to seeing you soon.
Mr Chetty
