BBC and Facebook launch online offerings for kids
The BBC is launching a new website to help 9-12 year-olds navigate "the day-to-day pressures and dilemmas of life online". The site, Own It, features presenters and vloggers talking about issues including cyber-bullying, privacy and online safety. It aims to develop "confidence and resilience" in children when dealing with online dangers. Meanwhile Facebook has created a version of its Messenger app for children as young as six. Messenger Kids allows children to talk, send photos, videos and text messages to friends who are pre-approved by an adult. Finally, YouTube has pledged to use artificial intelligence to flag up child abuse videos and hire thousands more staff to review inappropriate content.
