Covent Garden Science Experiments

Mr Jacob - 24 Nov 2017

This week in Covent Garden, we had a great time conducting an experiment using Vitamin C tablets, water and old film cannisters!
Adding a tablet to a small amount of water in the cannister and closing the lid tightly led to some exciting results. As the tablet reacts with the water, air pressure builds up inside the canister until the lid blasts off, turning the cannister into a miniature rocket!
We chose variables to change in our experiments. What would happen if we used less water? Or more Vitamin C tablets? Stopwatches were used to measure the difference in time taken for the cannister to lift off.

This was the first practical lesson under our new Science scheme, which will allow the children to take part in lots of experiments in the classroom. Everyone enjoyed the afternoon and we're looking forward to the next experiment!

Well done children. This looks like fun. Waterloo can't wait to try this one! What might happen if you used a taller canister or warm water?
